Asia-Pacific’s Largest Telco to Launch VoIP services
August 29, 2007
Toronto, ON, Canada (August, 29 2007) –– Pacific Internet Limited (PacNet), Asia-Pacific's largest carrier, teamed with MERA Systems (operating under the trademark of MFI Soft in Russia) –– a key provider of VoIP softswitches and session controllers for efficient management of VoIP communications –– to launch a VoIP network throughout Asia-Pacific.
PacNet, a Singapore-based international telco with regional offices in Hong Kong, the Philippines, Australia, India, Thailand and Malaysia, provides a comprehensive suite of communication services including Internet access, web-hosting and telephony to corporate and residential users all over the Asia-Pacific region. To further strengthen its market position and intensify regional expansion, PacNet plans to add the Voice over IP capability to its service package. To address this challenge and to efficiently manage expected traffic, PacNet needed a robust and scalable solution that could perform call routing, pre-billing, SIP/ H.323 translation and ensure seamless interoperability with multi-vendor equipment and partner networks.
PacNet evaluated a number of softswitch solutions and eventually opted for MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch II (MVTS II) as the core element of its network. Testing procedures are almost finished and PacNet is ready to deploy the MERA solution on its network.
The key benefit of MVTS II is intelligent routing, which enables the selection of most ‘appealing’ routing paths based on cost, quality, route capacity, gateway and route load, and other business-critical parameters. MVTS II will function as a single entry point on the telco’s network and perform on-the-fly transcoding, allow softswitch partitioning, number portability, and provide the carrier with sophisticated operation analysis and reporting tools.
“Last year we studied the demand for VoIP services in the Asia-Pacific region. The research revealed that over 30% of enterprise users planned to adopt IP telephony in the next two years. VoIP services that we have promoted since early 2007 under the trademark PacNet Vocal will embrace the entire region, and MVTS II will help us to make them highly competitive. The MERA solution offers a winning price-to-feature ratio and its scalability caters for our growth ambitions”, comments Lee Tian Yew, Vice President of Pacific Internet.
“We appreciated the enhanced flexibility and reliability of the carrier’s network delivered by MVTS II”, — says Lim Kai Shan, CEO of T2Networks, the system integrator for the project. “Thanks to MERA Systems’ technical guidance and support the testing process went smooth. We hope to further long-term partnership”.
“We are glad to provide Pacific Internet with an efficient solution that will help them create new services and therefore leverage their competitive advantage”, comments Konstantin Nikashov, CEO of MERA Systems. “Our expertise in VoIP technologies enables us to contribute to our customers’ growth and success, and we will be there to offer higher capacity as Pacific Internet extends its footprint”.
