Indonesia’s Largest Telco Deploys MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch to Facilitate Traffic Handling
Toronto, ON, Canada (August 07, 2007) — MERA Systems – a key provider of VoIP softswitches and session controllers for efficient management of VoIP communications – has won a contract to provide a softswitch solution for PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom), the major Indonesia-based telco.Telkom, the largest Indonesian carrier with 15+ years of experience in telecommunications, provides landline and mobile telephony services, wired/wireless Internet access and various multimedia services for enterprises and residential users. Telkom launched IP Telephony services in 2002 with the surge of the VoIP boom. The carrier was looking for an efficient and reliable softswitch solution to ensure seamless interconnection with peering partners’ networks, provide two-way SIP-H.323 translation and enable single-point entry into the network. To find the best match for these challenges, Telkom announced a bid – and MERA Systems won it by offering its MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch (MVTS). Komunikasi Maya Indonesia (KMI), a local system integrator and MERA Systems’ strategic business partner, deployed MVTS on the carrier’s network and provided comprehensive training for the staff.
MVTS provides a single entry point into Telkom’s network to ensure topology hiding and simplify accounting chores. The MERA solution performs comprehensive routing, enabling the carrier to enhance traffic handling flexibility, improve ASR and send calls to the most cost-effective and quality routes and hence drive the margins up. Additionally, smart routing tools of MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch will allow the carrier to raise customer satisfaction by enforcement of differentiated SLA policies.
Furthermore, MVTS offers Telkom a full suite of business-critical capabilities: generation of accounting data for third-party billing systems, seamless interoperability, two-way SIP/H.323 translation and transcoding.
“The MERA solution proved the best fit to Telkom’s needs, and we were there to facilitate the installation process”, comments Ihsan Ramadhi Putra, Marketing Manager of Komunikasi Maya Indonesia.
“Our aim is to ensure that Telkom’s migration to MVTS is smooth and easy. As the carrier utilizes their own, company-specific billing models, we developed the Radius Format Translator – a software application specifically designed to transform the MVTS standard accounting formats to comply with the Telkom’s ones”.
“We’ve been looking for a solution that could ease our VoIP activities. MVTS has significantly simplified and secured our interactions with peering partners around the globe – now we have a single point of interconnection, which also saves effort on configuration and administration of the VoIP system”, said M.Hadimargono, Infrastructure Manager of Telekomunikasi Indonesia. “Equally important is that MVTS features various redundancy schemes, which guarantee stable and dependable operation of our fast-growing business”.
“At MERA Systems we have always been customer-driven and this is why leading national carriers like Telkom choose our solutions to fully realize their network potential”, comments Konstantin Nikashov, CEO of MERA Systems. “We are pleased to team with Telkom and provide a universally-acknowledged solution that will enable them to adopt a holistic approach to traffic management. Indonesian VoIP market is on the rise nowadays and we are sure that MVTS will leverage Telkom’s vantage point and extend their footprint”.
