MERA Systems Brings the First Softswitch Ever to the Republic of El Salvador
June 20, 2007
Toronto, ON, Canada (June, 20 2007) –– MERA Systems (operating under the trademark of MFI Soft in Russia), a key provider of VoIP softswitches and session controllers for efficient management of IP communications, joined efforts with Telecam – one of the top 3 Latin America telcos – to deploy the first ever softswitch solution in the Republic of El Salvador.
Telecam, an El Salvador-based alternative telco, provides a wide range of telephony services including traffic termination, calling card telephony and VoIP services for residential and corporate users. As a major regional VoIP carrier, Telecam needed a robust and reliable solution that would centralize VoIP traffic management on its network. Prior to deploying MERA’s solution, Telecam utilized multiple gateways to route VoIP calls between its Points of Presence (POPs) and 3,000+ peering partner networks. Needless to say, such topology seriously compromised the telco’s network security, complicated equipment configuration chores, posed compatibility issues and hampered processing of call detail records (CDRs).
To address these challenges Telecam has deployed MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch II (MVTS II) as the core element of its network. MVTS II functions as a single entry point into the carrier’s network, enables topology hiding, provides itelligent call routing, performs two-way SIP/ H.323 translation, on-the-fly transcoding and ensures seamless interoperability with customer and partner networks. The key technology benefit of the solution is its state-of-the-art routing tools, which enable the choice of the most ‘appealing’ routes — based on cost, quality, information from ENUM registries, route capacity, gateway and route load, and other business-critical parameters. Along with interworking and routing functions, MVTS II delivers softswitch partitioning capabilities, mobile number portability, and sophisticated operation analysis and reporting tools.
"We’ve been in search of a solution that would solve our problems at one stroke. Our partners recommended us MVTS II as one of the best and most reliable softswitch systems available on the market", comments Juan Carlos Miranda, Regional Sales Manager of Telecam. "MVTS II has significantly simplified our network management chores – now we have a single point for collection of call details, accounting and other business critical data. We also appreciated sophisticated routing capabilities and advanced scalability opportunities of MVTS II that cater for our growth ambitions. I would also like to thank MERA Systems’ technical support team for their guidance. We will recommend MVTS II to our partners as a cost-effective and reliable solution which will enable them to achieve their business goals and operate to the utmost of their capabilities."
"Telecam is one of the Top 3 Latin America telcos and the first in El Salvador to deploy a softswitch on its network", says Sergey Drozhilkin, CEO of MERA Systems. “The VoIP market in El Salvador has reached a stage where a softswitch has become a ‘must’, something a carrier cannot do without for further growth. We are proud to be there and provide exactly what Telecam needs at this moment.”
