MERA and Nortel Networks Partner to Integrate Nortel Networks' Succession and MERA's MVTS Session Controller
April 13, 2004
Toronto, ON, Canada — April 12, 2004 — MERA Systems, a key supplier of VoIP solutions for seamless integration of packet networks, today announced its partnership with the Moscow Division of Nortel Networks [NYSE/TSX: NT], the world leader in networking and communication technologies. The partnership is aimed at integration of the MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch (MVTS) with Nortel Networks' Succession 1000 and Business Communication Manager (BCM 3.5). The integration will ensure seamless interworking of Nortel Networks' cutting-edge enterprise communications solutions with a wide diversity of vendor-specific networks and equipment.
The MVTS is an award-winning session controller designed for resilient and fault-proof peering of packet networks. The embedded interprotocol translation mechanism enables the MVTS to interwork with virtually any equipment that uses H.323 or SIP standards. The key strength of integrating the MVTS with Nortel Networks solutions lies in the ability to mend protocol discrepancies and fix inconsistencies in vendor-specific implementations of standards. Equipped with this ingenious tool, Nortel Networks' IP PBX systems can seamlessly and easily connect to otherwise incompatible H.323 equipment.
Apart from the enhanced connectivity with external networks, the MVTS session controller improves voice quality and ensures implementation of world-class telephony features that are indispensable in modern business communications — a series of call forward and call transfer scenarios, enhanced conferencing, and many more.
The integration of the MERA session controller and Nortel Networks' Succession and BCM solutions is targeted at alternative carriers, a fast-growing segment in the Russian telecom market. MERA is currently implementing a number of product enhancements that will help carriers serve Russian enterprises best and satisfy their business-critical need for cost-efficient, dependable and effective communications systems. In the framework of their technical partnership, Nortel Networks and MERA are negotiating a joint sales and marketing strategy.
"We are excited to partner with Nortel Networks to create a comprehensive solution pregnant with fast and measurable benefits for both enterprises and carriers," says Natalya Korobkova, Marketing Director, MERA Systems, Inc. "We strongly believe that the synergy of Nortel Networks as Number One in PBX systems and MERA's extensive expertise in VoIP technologies will lead the telecom world from 'islands of VoIP' to an all-embracing universe of interoperable VoIP networks. As a next step to this process, we are discussing the possibility of packaging the Nortel Networks' IP PBX's together with the MVTS session controller to build a comprehensive carrier/enterprise solution."
"Compatibility is a hot topic and major requirement for a viable enterprise communications solution," says Zinaida Baturina, Key Account Manager — Service Providers, Alternative Operators, Nortel Networks. "It is time we start moving from a motley mix of multiple-standard, vendor-specific VoIP implementations to an integrated, carrier- and enterprise-friendly communications ecosystem. Our partnership with MERA Systems will embrace this call for interoperability, to offer unprecedented IP-based PBX solutions that seamlessly connect to any network and ensure mission-critical reliability and quality of service."
