MERA and PortaOne Join Efforts to Deliver Full-Featured SBC+Billing Solutions to the Global Market
19 February 2004, Vancouver, Canada — Porta Software, Ltd and MERA Systems, Inc. will be joining efforts to provide customers with advanced carrier-grade VoIP solutions. Both companies have been key players on the VoIP market for a number of years, with products used by numerous customers worldwide.
Porta Software's PortaBilling/PortaSIP and MERA Systems' MVTS are highly symbiotic products — the "yin and jang" of VoIP. Each component's functionality ideally fits the other's to create a complete and perfect solution, with scalable architecture and open protocols for easy integration.
Used in conjunction with PortaBilling, the MVTS allows the creation of scalable and easy-to-manage transit VoIP networks (via H.323). The MVTS takes care of the actual call switching, routing and transcoding, solving compatibility issues between the VoIP endpoints of different manufacturers, while PortaBilling provides call authentication/authorization, information on priority-based and least-cost routing, CDR processing, and advanced statistics (ASR, cost/revenue, etc.). This solution, where the MVTS serves as a session border controller, is recommended for wholesale VoIP providers or companies with a complex network infrastructure.
Another mutual point of interest for the two companies is the fast-growing SIP VoIP market. PortaSIP combines the best available open-source components (e.g. IPTel's SIP Express Router or Vovida libraries) with a custom-designed code, offering high performance and an array of services at low cost. MERA Systems' new SIP-HIT can be used for SIP<—>H323 conversion, thus allowing customers' SIP and H323 networks to interconnect transparently. This would allow major existing A-Z VoIP carriers (such as iBasis or Arbinet), who currently offer mainly H323 termination, to provide for SIP call termination as well.
Both companies are extremely satisfied with the results achieved during the pilot project, and are looking forward to future cooperation.
