MERA Systems, Inc. Introduces a GUI for Fast and Easy Operation of the MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch
September 25, 2003
MERA Systems, Inc. has released a graphical user interface (GUI) for the MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch, its best-selling and popular VoIP product. The GUI has been developed to run on Windows XP and Windows 2000 platforms. This intuitive interface allows graphical views of the MVTS objects and is designed to remotely manage the systemits configuration files. Equally important is the capability to watch current call statistics and the full range of VoIP traffic data in real time. With this handy tool, the system can be operated by users unfamiliar with the Linux-family operating systems, as both the configuration files and statistics can now easily accessed, viewed or managed with the help of an illustrative and familiar looking interface.
The GUI (also called the MVTS Manager) is an easy-to-install application with a user-friendly Windows appearance. The Linux part of the MVTS Manager is supplied with a thorough step-by-step installation guide. An authorized user can manage the system from any remote workstation equipped with the GUI and connected to the server. A single instance of the MVTS Manager can work simultaneously with several MVTS servers, which is critical for the cluster versions of the software. Moreover, one MVTS system is accessible to a number of concurrent users.
The MVTS Manager is instrumental in configuring gatekeepers, gateways, RAS users and dial plans in real-time mode. Tabular statistics on both originating gateways, terminating gateways and dial plans now includes information about the maximum and average load, the number of calls and their overall duration, the average success rate (ASR), the average call duration (ACD) and QoS (Quality of Service). The statistics of active calls shows the number of ongoing calls, the originating and terminating gateways for each call, call duration, codecs used, etc. The number of current calls and call average is presented in from of a chart. Another essential part of the MVTS Manager is the administration console, whose functionality is similar to the MVTS Linux console.
"It is now much easier to access the expanded call and routing statistics", says Nikita Artemov, the network manager, Elvis Telecom, Moscow, Russia. "The MVTS Manager addresses a lot of our issue areas. Now we do not have to develop our own application to watch online statistics. We find the MVTS Manager to be a powerful up-to-date tool that is of great help to those unfamiliar with Linux. The GUI helps evaluate the efficiency of partner carriers and gateways. I can also add here that one of its main advantages is the elaborate search mechanism: with over 10, 000 possible call routes, it is essential for us to be able to quickly find and configure a desired dial peer".
"The MVTS Manager is easy to install and use", says Jonathan Abrams, Network Engineer for IBEX Telecom, NY, USA. "The main advantage of this Windows-based software is that you can simply see what is going on. The management team can now have a clear picture of current calls and access this statistics without any assistance from technical officers. The statistics graph gives a fine view of partners' activity".
The GUI demo is now available upon request. Though it has several minor restrictions, it is a roadworthy software fit for everyday usage.
