RADIUS Link Redundancy Added in MVTS Delivers the True Value of Dynamic Routing to Lank Telecom
August 27, 2003
MERA Systems, Inc. announced the release of its new MVTS v. 2.1.6 enhanced with RADIUS-link redundancy. Adding to the overall reliability of the system, this functionality enables full-featured use of the RADIUS server and delivers the true value of dynamic routing to service providers.
This functionality was proposed and first implemented by LANCK Telecom, a leading Russian LD telephony provider, to allow failproof operation of the RADIUS system. "We could not rely on RADIUS service until the redundancy capability was implemented", says Sergey Alexeev, head of LANCK's IT-department. "Before, whenever the primary server was down due to a routine maintenance or any other reason, all the billing data for the period was lost. The failover server will appreciably increase the system reliability. MVTS detects failure of the primary server and reacts by transferring the call accounting tasks to the backup system. It means that we get a complete picture and no data loss."
Dynamic routing is a process in which routers automatically adjust to changes in network topology or traffic choosing the optimal call paths in terms of availability, bandwidth, price, time of day etc. It leads to significant cost-savings, better quality of service and an overall increase in networking efficiency. Besides, the provider can customize the routing tables based on his clients' specific needs. Finally, dynamic routing saves the time and effort of having to manually configure the lookup tables.
Support of a backup RAIDUS server is an important feature of the new MVTS release, which ensures trouble-free operation of the system. It therefore allows service providers to fully rely on dynamic routing as an intrinsic feature of their network architecture. Should the primary RADIUS server fail to respond with acknowledgement of packets receipt, the system will automatically switch over to a backup server for continuous operation.
