MERA Enhances Its MVTS Session Controller with Web-based Monitoring and Advanced Interoperability Tools

April 28, 2003

Toronto, ON, Canada — March 29, 2004 — MERA Systems, Inc., a key VoIP manufacturer, today announced the new v.2.1.8 release of the MVTS, its industry-leading session controller. The new release enables Web-based monitoring of the key operation parameters of the session controller and enhances interoperability between a diversity of VoIP equipment in carriers' networks.

The MVTS is a fully functional session controller deployed as the focal point of carriers' networks for flexible and revenue-generating routing of voice traffic across IP links. Its ingenious SIP/H.323 interprotocol translation module (SIP-HIT) enables easy interaction between the SIP and H.323-based equipment and performs conversion between the most popular voice codecs for fault-free circulation of media flows.

The new release has extended the protocol translation capabilities of the MVTS to the H.323 domain, to enable signaling interworking between proprietary implementations of the H.323 standard. With this handy add-on, the MVTS serves as an efficient interface for seamless connectivity between multiple carriers' networks. Furthermore, it provides an ingenious solution to the enterprise/carrier networking issue, enabling fault-proof IP-to-IP interconnection between customer-premises IP PBX's and carriers' networks, with full support for vendor-proprietary telephony features. Currently the MVTS enhances operational flexibility of solutions from Cisco Systems, Nortel Networks, BroadWorks and other vendors, ensuring their smooth interoperability with otherwise incompatible networks and equipment.

Another important enhancement of the MVTS session controller is the Web Monitor, a utility that allows carriers and their VoIP peering partners to remotely monitor critical operational parameters with the help of an easy-to-use web-based interface. The Web Monitor is installed at the MVTS server and enables peer carriers to keep track of relevant gateway, dial-peers and routes statistics using a standard Web browser. The carrier can customize the web interface to insert its logo or post relevant announcements to partner carriers, thus making communication with partners and customers more convenient and efficient.

Coincidently with the new MVTS session controller release, MERA has announced an unprecedented offer to all interested users — a FREE all-in-one trial version of the session controller. The trial includes the MVTS, the SIP-HIT, the Web Monitor and the GUI utility, and provides a complete carrier-grade package needed to fully evaluate the network management capabilities of MERA's solution.
