From xPGK to MVTS: evolution insights

November 30, 2002

New product MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch was first presented in November 2002. MVTS has appeared as a result of evolving xPEERience Gatekeeper/Proxy (xPGK), the solution well-known among the Russian and foreign IP-telephony service providers.

"Many of our customers habitually refer to this solution simply as MERA," says Konstantin Skorobogatov, the team manager, "and we decided that this word in the product title will do no harm."

Besides, the new title reflects the purpose of MVTS better, that is transfer of the signaling and media traffic in transit. In this solution we have tried to implement all the wishes of our customers that accumulated over a year of hand-in-glove cooperation.

The newly introduced add-on functions and the approved perfection plan for the product permit one with good reason to range it in a class of softswitches.

The most remarkable of the new MVTS features are:

The plans for the nearest year include support of the SIP and SNMP protocols, further rework of the cluster solution and expansion of the routing ability.

In addition to the new capacities MVTS has fully retained the H.323 gatekeeper and proxy functionalities taken over from the predecessor xPGK. As before our customers may receive a fully-functional demo version of the application for test running the product in their VoIP nets and enjoy consulting support of our software engineers.
